News – Letter from the President
AI as the Headliner at iGX
I was very grateful to WBR for inviting me to once again attend iGX in London! I had the opportunity to speak with a number of different iGaming companies in order to understand how they are using AI for player acquisition, retention, and responsible gaming.
The discussions were not only eye-opening, but also somewhat alarming. AI use appears to have exploded within the marketing functions, with a mix of internally-developed and externally-sourced AI solutions. Most touted the ability to use AI agents to create full scale marketing campaigns, handling the identification of recipients based on specified criteria, production of the creatives, system interfaces, delivery, redemption tracking, and reporting.
I was told that there is always a ‘human in the loop’ when AI agents are used to supervise and review what other AI agents do. Unfortunately, it appeared that the human oversight was there to simply press GO and launch the campaign. If the selling point of using AI is its speed and lack of reliance on human input, having humans double check all the work is counterproductive.
I left the conference with two takeaways:
The first is that the Best Practices outlined by IGSA’s Ethical Use of AI Committee provide regulators with a good base on which to build AI use regulations—but there’s more to be done;
The second is that regulators may need to look deeper into certain gaming operational areas in order to truly understand how AI is being used, so that they can provide the appropriate oversight and player protection without hampering innovation.
GSATS 2026
IGSA is still evaluating our options for holding a GSA Technical Summit this year. We are exploring potential locations and time frames, and will announce the decision related to hosting GSATS in the coming weeks.
NCLGS Collaboration
We are excited to announce a collaboration with the National Council of Regulators from Gaming States (NCLGS) to facilitate a panel on Online Skill Gaming during their Winter meeting, to be held in Savannah, GA, on December 9th. This is part of an ongoing collaborative and cooperative effort to provide state legislators with access to IGSA Best Practices, Standards, and information on key gaming industry initiatives.
We are also in the early stages of exploring co-locating GSATS 2027 with the NCLGS Summer meeting in Philadelphia, PA. This would make it more convenient for state legislators and regulators to attend GSATS.
Please stay tuned for more information about these events!
