Within some IGSA Standards, there is an identifier that is designed to be globally unique. It uniquely identifies the products developed by a supplier. This identifier is called the Manufacturer ID or MID. The MID is comprised of two components. The first is an IGSA assigned three (3) character prefix which uniquely identifies the supplier. The second is X (x) characters which are assigned by the supplier to uniquely identify the product within their product line.
IGSA stores and tracks the MIDs issued to IGSA Standard Licensees within an MID registry. The registry also indicates which ID’s are no longer valid. To obtain and maintain IGSA Certification for its products, a company must use a valid MID.
Members:
- Each Member, as a Licensee of an IGSA Standard(s), may request and is entitled to one (1) MID.
- Each Member, as a Licensee of an IGSA Standard(s), may request additional MIDs for an annual fee (see Fees).
- If a Member company that, as a Licensee of an IGSA Standard(s), acquires one or more companies that are also Licensees of an IGSA Standard(s), then: - If the new Parent company wants to retain ownership of the acquired companies’ MIDs in addition to its own, then it may do so for an annual fee (see Fees) per acquired company's MID.
- If a Member, as a Licensee of an IGSA standard(s), owning a MID goes out of business, or no longer licenses IGSA standard(s), it’s MID will be marked as no longer valid and archived.
- If a Member leaves IGSA and is no longer licensing an IGSA Standard(s), but wishes to retain ownership of their MID, then they can do so for an annual fee (see Fees).
- If the new Parent company does not want to retain ownership of the acquired companies’ MIDs then the acquired companies' MIDs will be marked as no longer valid and archived.
Non-member Licensees
- Each Licensee of an IGSA Standard(s) may request one or more MIDs for an annual fee (see Fees).
- If a company, that is a Licensee of an IGSA Standard(s), acquires one or more companies that are also Licensees of an IGSA Standard(s), then: - If the new parent company wants to retain ownership of the acquired companies’ MIDs in addition to its own, then they may do so for an annual fee (see Fees) per acquired company’s MID.
- If a Licensee of an IGSA Standard(s) owning a MID goes out of business, or no longer licenses IGSA Standard(s), it’s MID will be marked as no longer valid and archived. However, if the Licensee wishes to retain ownership of its MID, then it can do so for an annual fee (see Fees).
- If the new parent company does not want to retain ownership of the acquired companies’ MIDs, then those MIDs will be marked as no longer valid and archived.
Please note: If company is crossed out, they are no longer licensed to use IGSA standards.
